Lesbian Advice #7: Can I Be In Love With An Older Woman?

Question 1: Can I love a woman 30 years my senior?

Q: Hi, I found your blog and I really want a second opinion from you.

Back in 2006, I started playing soccer. Ever since I saw my soccer coach for the first time I have not been able to get her out of my head! 7 years later and still she's my "platonic" love, but I think it's more than that because I have feelings for her. It's out of this world how my world turns round whenever I'm near her.

She's not my coach anymore, she's my team mate, and oh! Did I mention she was 50 years old? I'm 19! And I'm head over heels for her. She drives me insane. I would just like to know if you think it's just puppy love or if I could honestly have feelings for her.

- L

A: There are a lot of factors here. Perhaps you do have feelings for this woman. We've all had a crush on a teacher. We've all had a crush on Jennifer Beals and she's 49!

I'm not one to say that age really matters though. I think you can fall in love with someone no matter their age... but I don't think that's the problem here. What would worry me if I were in this situation would be whether or not I should act on my feelings.

Teachers and coaches are all different about where they stand on dating students and dating former students. As far as I'm aware, there is nothing specifically illegal about dating a former teacher. However, personal morals and ethics differ greatly from person to person.

I would say that if you really think you like this woman, you should try hitting on her. But the best thing to do if she rejects you is not take it personally. You have to respect that this woman may feel that this would violate her personal code of ethics. Do not attempt to persuade and coerce. And if rejection is what you're hit with, deal with it appropriately. Good luck!

Question 2: How can I get through to my ex?

Q: Where to start? I moved to ex's last city in 1998. We continued to have a relationship for about 10 years. But then things got real bad for me. I shut everyone out including my ex. I went away, got my life together, and came back to try and get her back.

I started writing her and she received my mail for about 7 months. She would not talk to me. Recently I saw her and she stared until I made eye contact. Then she rolled her eyes and even more recently closed the PO Box I was using to write to her. She's had that PO Box since 1997.

Did I mention that I used to be a jerk? But I apologized and I want to show her that I'm a different person. Why not just write or call to say stop? Why the extreme? My therapist thinks it's because she's still in love with me but doesn't know what to do about it. What do you think?

- Confused!

A: Okay, I gotta be real blunt here. Just cut it out and move on.

If this woman wanted to speak to you, she would. There are probably underlying reasons of why she doesn't reply. Maybe all she can remember is one particular bad incident that you've completely forgotten about. Maybe she vowed to cut you out of her life when you left all those years ago. Whatever it is, it's time to move on.

Rather than focusing on making her see the new you, teach someone else about what a great person you are now. Hopefully your ex will have accepted your apology and you can move on to new things. It's never healthy to fight for something you probably won't realistically get (I speak from personal experience!) I know that sounds quite brutal, but it's 100% true from what I have seen myself.

Remember that there are always bigger and brighter things just around the corner! Good luck!

Lost Girl S04E05 Recap: "Let The Dark Times Roll."

WARNING: This article quite clearly contains spoilers of the highest level!

by Lauren W

Huzzah! An episode without Dyson! Nothing against Kris Holden-Ried, but Dyson is a terrible character.

So what's going down this week in the land of Fae?

Dark? Oh haaaaayl no.
We pick up exactly where we left off, actually. And Bo (Anna Silk) calls bullshit on the Una Mens, who seem to think she has aligned herself with the dark. She also figures out that Vex (Paul Amos) has something to do with these shenanigans.

Then some cray cray Fae-ness hits the fan.

What an odd way to have a threesome.
Bo somehow has the power to succubus a bunch of people at once these days... But they fire back and Bo collapses in a heap on the floor. Oops.

The Una Mens are all "go pledge allegiance to the dark leader or die" and Bo is all WHOA BITCH I get it.

So off she goes with Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) and is surprised to find that the leader of the dark is actually...

Girl power.
Aw yes, Evony. (Emmanuelle Vaugier.) Wearing a kick ass wig, I see.

Evony is super shocked but also super happy that Bo has chosen her side. All Bo is interested in though is finding Vex.

So, naturally, Evony invites Bo and her friends to her party tonight. I smell fun.

Trick: Hottest older man in the West, apparently.
Cut to Trick (Rick Howland) who is trying to find out whatever he can about the Wanderer... whilst also getting hit on by the anonymous caller. Go, Trick.

Trick has some weird squealing walnut-type thingy in a box that will not be explained just yet... or even in this episode. But I guess we should take note of it.

Then the Una Mens come and steal him away. Ut oh.

Just look at that back.
Over at the Morrigan's party, Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten) and Kenzi are having a few drinks while Bo argues that she knows herself, and questions why everyone's looking at her.

Of course Evony knows that they're just delighted to see the unaligned succubus has finally found her way to the dark. Yay!

She tells Bo that she's gonna give her all the resources she has to hunt Vex down, and she has one other gift for her...

They might as well have given her a halo. Look at all that angelic light.
I'm starting to think the dark are way better than the light. I mean, the light only ever do the worst things to Bo and Lauren (Zoie Palmer) and just look at this. Adorable.

While this is all going on, we keep cutting to Trick with the Una Mens... but let's be real, no one cares. (Basically all you need to know for now is that he's not loving them and he sneakily gets out a sword. Just in case.)

Bo and Lauren are like "we need to talk", which quickly turns into -

As Bo says, "waste not, want not".
Meanwhile in the other room, Kenzi and Tamsin are minding their own business, helping themselves to the sushi buffet when -

And suddenly I'm attracted to this guy.
Hi, Bruce! Love this guy.

Kenzi cutely names him "Br-ushi" (get it?) and he tells her that he's been trapped under a dark Fae's influence because he helped her out of a pickle last season.

She tells him to get up - completely ruining the sushi - and Kenzi pulls the tablecloth off another table to give it to him to use as a shirt... and she inadvertently finds the poor newlyweds that the dark Fae killed to steal this venue from. Ha.

Evony is loving this view.
And then comes possibly some of the best lines ever to come out of Lost Girl. When Evony catches Bo and Lauren kissing, her exact words are:
"Boriiiiing. What's next? Are you gonna braid each other's hair? Scissor already!"
And Evony is quickly becoming one of my favourite characters.

She tells Bo that she'll give her those resources for Vex if she gives her her blood oath that she'll bring him to her afterwards.

I'm actually kind of scared of her...
Enter this lovely creature. Evony tells Lauren she's also needed on this 'mission', because Bo will need a drug to make Vex powerless so that he'll come along willingly.

I'm still not entirely sure what the point of the lady in the pink dress is, and the next few scenes don't really help either. But she is pretty funny so we'll exchange our "Dear producers, what the hell were you thinking?" for "haha, thanks for the laughs."

I knew there was a reason I was creeped out.
So in the next scene, the scavenger stabs a poor, faceless creature to death to steal their pointy knife. (See, why couldn't Bo just have done this? Confusion.)

Oh okay wait. There is a very lame excuse for her coming along, but really it still wasn't necessary. Bo could have done this herself and saved time... But I digress. I'm not gonna turn this into a rant about pointless Lost Girl characters... Maybe.

Back at the party...

DJ Tamsin in the house.
So Kenzi and Tamsin figure out that any Fae can claim ownership over another captive, so Tamsin announces her new control over Bruce.

Unfortunately, they did not know that the current holder of Bruce has the right to defend what they own and this is what she's up against.

This bitch is badass.
Yeah, good luck Tamsin.

Back in a random alleyway, Vex controls a poor, innocent woman into getting the pointy knife thing from Bo, Lauren, and Miss Frills.

The woman kicks the scavenger in the shin, and Lauren runs over to help. Just a bruise. And then Bo rushes off to follow the woman to Vex, complete with syringe.

Boom! Right in the jugular.
Long story short, Bo finds Vex, Bo kicks the ass of the woman under Vex's control, aaaaand Vex gets his hands on Bo's drug and paralyses her.

Oh also, Vex seems to have a hand that is sort of... Well it looks mummified.

In between listening to Bo ramblings about her love for Lauren, Vex tells her that the Una Mens cut off each of his family members' hands so they had no power. And he is going to perform a self amputation on the zombie hand to make sure his other hand remains.

Everyone's favourite Sid Vicious wannabe.
During this terribly sad story though, Vex manages to get one awesome line out.
"I will miss Ginger. But at least I'll still be able to dance with Fred."
Vintage pop culture references for the win. Oh, by the way, the paralysis is wearing off on Bo.

Somehow back at the dark Fae party, this is happening.

Ahahah.
For some reason, Tamsin has chosen to fight her battle for Bruce in the form of a dance off to the death. Genius.

Tamsin busts some pretty terrible moves, some average ones with the help of Kenzi, and her opponent spins on her head does all sort of amazing shit.

But then, Tamsin gets her valkyrie on.

Still hot. I can't help it.
Somehow, this causes her dance off rival to attempt a somersault and she ends up landing on her neck.

Go, Tamsin! Bruce is now theirs.

Meanwhile, Vex takes the potion he's created but it just has an adverse reaction. Bo, for some reason, is attempting to convince Vex not to chop his own hand off, but -

Ouuuuuuuch!
Bo can finally move, but she's too late. Vex's hand is gone.

When he stands back up, Bo tries questioning him once again about how he turned her dark. He reveals that he actually doesn't know anything about it. Oh.

Anyway, Vex is left with a stump.

Power stance, go!
Bo takes Vex's hand back to Evony, who explains that she doesn't want to hurt Vex. "Unlike the light, the dark don't hold grudges". All she cares about is destroying the Una Mens.

Bo demands Evony to call for her archivist so she can find out who signed her over to the dark.

Ew. Stop that.
Of course a good old pen and paper isn't good enough for the Fae and their records are kept on the archivist's skin. He peels the top layer off, which is enough to make me stop eating for a week.

The skin reveals that yep, Bo did sign the agreement. There's nothing she can do and she owes Evony her loyalty. Oh one more thing, if she wants to overturn the agreement, she'll have to find her sponsor. Only trouble is, no one knows who this "Rayner" is.

Back with the dreaded Una Mens...

Trick puts his sword away. No pun intended.
It is revealed that they have decided to make Trick the acting Ash. Ooooooh.

Then there's a little, kinda heartbreaking scene in which Lauren tells Bo she can't be with the light anymore and that she feels like she owes something to the dark. (They did look for her when the light abandoned her, after all.)

No worries though, because Bo is also technically dark now... so they will be seeing each other.

So, so cute.
Back at Benzi manor, Kenzi sets Bruce free and tells him to "spread his wings and fly". Vomit. What a cheese-fest.

But the camera then pans to Tamsin, who smiles at these instructions. Please, please tell me they're setting us up for a Valkyubus LoveFest. Please.

The episode ends with this cute Grandfather-Granddaughter exchange:

Naw.
Yes, Bo's grandfather is now the acting ash for the light fae, while she is (as Trick says) "darling of the dark." Cute.

Meanwhile though, the camera cuts to Trick's cellar where... someone has stolen his squealing walnut. And the Una Mens find out that this Rayner guy is Bo's sponsor.

They have an odd reaction, which is something along the lines of "Rayner? No, this can't be. Never again."

What an odd end to the episode.

So what did you think? Better or worse than last week?

We really do love hearing your thoughts, so keep them coming!

Editorial: Bye-Bye Bad Habits

by Bo Sellers

This past September I was featured on a weight-loss show called “My Big Fat Revenge.” Now,50 pounds lighter, in body and mind, I've lost the weight and found myself. When my soul awoke to my sexuality, it was as if my mind, also, awoke for the first time. Everything I encounter comes with a fresh curiosity, that only previously existed within societal constraints keeping my imagination at bay. My new sense of self has gifted me more patience, yet I'm still searching for balance in understanding things from the outside looking in so I'm working on cutting the fat in other areas of my life as well.

1.  Bye-bye judging books by their covers. - Before I realized I was gay, I would quickly jump to conclusions about people, taking them merely at face-value. I logically knew people were more than what I saw on the surface, but there was a barrier within me sending my mind directly to judgement. With my new open-mind, I'm able to take time to truly appreciate everyone’s different forms of expression. You really can find the good in ANYone if you look hard enough, some you may have to look harder than others, but it’s there. It’s always there. If I find myself struggling to appreciate anyone's personality, I imagine them naked and crying over a pile of raw beef, if nothing else I'm greeted with a smile from proposed nudity.

2.  Bye-bye double-standards. - I need to remember just because I know I'm gay now doesn't mean the whole world does. I find myself frustrated when men hit on me to the point I've considered a style makeover. But I love my long hair and 6 inch heels too much to be anything but a lipstick lezBO. But seriously, how are the men supposed to know I prefer poohnahnah? And shouldn't I be flattered either way? I used to look at every man I was attracted to and assume he was straight, because that’s what I wanted him to be. I shouldn't chastise a man for doing the exact thing I used to, and still sometimes do. Even now, I look at every woman I'm attracted to and assume she’s gay because that’s what I want her to be. Although, the women I'm attracted to do tend to have more masculine qualities. It takes a real woman to be man enough for me.

3.  Bye-bye fear. - By the age of 14 I found myself at a significant crossroads. I had sworn off salad from a near-death choking accident as a toddler. Until one day, salad was the only food available and I was forced to face my fear or go hungry. Any inner-fat-girl can tell you, the latter was not an option. I'm glad I had to face my salad fear because otherwise I wouldn't have discovered a whole new world of leafy flavor I’d been missing out on. Women are my favorite entrée and I refuse to be intimidated by them any more. I am going to be fearless in love. I’ll probably end up shot through the heart a time or two, but no one can say I didn't try. Let the cheesy 80's courting begin.

I know my new skills won’t be mastered overnight, but I also know a life free of judgement, double-standards and fear can lead to nothing but happiness and pleasure. Even if it takes my entire lifetime to perfect one of them, it’s a journey worth taking. Appreciating everyone I meet allows me to better appreciate myself, and self-appreciation is key to loving and being loved.

Lost Girl S04E04 Recap: "Turn To Stone."

WARNING: This article quite clearly contains spoilers of the highest level!

by Lauren W

Phew, this was one hell of an episode!

There are a bunch of things that made this episode better than the last three combined, so let's get started, shall we?

We open to Bo (Anna Silk) training in a boxing ring with... Bleh, it's Dyson (Kris Holden-Ried). BUT -

Lost Girl wastes no time.
Yes, he takes her pants off within three minutes. Oh p.s. there's a creepy gargoyle watching them getting their rocks off.

An hour later, Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) is taking care of baby Tamsin, apparently teaching her how to twerk, when Bo comes home.

This girl is on fireeeeeeeee!
Unfortunately Bo can't get through the door at first, because Kenzi has set up a trap to stop evil Fae from getting in. Oh. Is Bo evil? Maybe we'll find out.

Bo questions baby Tam Tam about who she works for, but Tamsin explains she can't remember because she was reborn. Convenient. Aaaand Kenzi and Bo decide to go out to party.

Come on, don't leave Kenzi out. Wink wink.
Give it three minutes and Bo has already gotten all of the lovely people shirtless and dancing to some very bisexual music.

Meanwhile, Massimo (the druid guy) is once again all up in Kenzi's grill asking her to pay him for the magic he lent her.

Who needs a ceiling fan when you're a valkyrie?
Back at Benzi Manor, some creepy ninja guys try to kidnap Tamsin, who uses her power to scare them shitless. And then she hurts her back. And... Is this the real Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten) coming back?!

Over at the Dal, Bo and Kenzi are getting down to the Spice Girls (British shout out, aw yeah) when...

Gotta say, not loving the decor.
It's another gargoyle. Still a mystery. And Kenzi shows Bo her awesome new Fae powers.

But no one really cares about that too much because LOOK.

Not gonna lie, my first thought was "yessss, she came back naked."
Yup, when Kenzi and Bo return home, Tamsin is back to her old self. Weeeeee. (Well, a very young minded, 2 week old Rachel Skarsten self.)

So Bo takes Tamsin to Dyson to figure out what is going on because - oh fun! - Bo and Kenzi were also robbed while they were out partying.

Bo leaves and Tamsin asks "Who's that girl?"

That photo of Kenzi (top right) looks suspiciously like a Ksenia Solo photoshoot...
Dyson explains to Tamsin that this woman (Lauren) is lost, and it's down to them to find her.

Speaking of, Lauren and Crystal (Ali Liebert) are chained up in some dungeon-type place.

Unfortunately, this is not a sex dungeon.
A weird voice calls out: "Long time no see, Lauren. Or should I call you Karen?" Creeeeeepster.

Back in the city, Kenzi is kidnapped by some tough guys, but Bo gets there first and beats them to a pulp to save her best friend. Sent by Massimo, it seems.

Oh, Kenzi. Always with the perfect hair.
Kenz explains to Bo that she knows who robbed them (Massimo) and Bo is kinda disgusted. Seems she knows the guy. And he sucks.

They go to see Massimo and make a deal: they get their stuff back if they also get him some herb from Lauren's apartment. Okay? So off they go, with a lovely threat of death from Bo to Massimo on the way out.

YouTuber or Big Brother contestant?
Lauren figures out that they're being watched and that whoever is watching them wants her to look under the tarpaulin in the room. Playing games, are we?

Also, Crystal seems to be unable to keep her mouth shut. She tells Lauren she only slept with her because "they" told her to. (What a doll.) But then she admits that it changed things and she gained real feelings for her. Lauren reminisces how she once also "spy-banged" Bo.

What a morally glowing pair these two are.

"I'm not the only whore in the room. Good."
Lauren tells Crystal the story of why she ran away from her life as Karen. She actually ends up confessing to accidentally killing 11 people with her brother after she made some explosives. What a LOVELY LADY.

After such a tell-all tale, the voice watching them is all "lol bitch, I don't care about that, just look under the damn tarp." And so she does.

"For me?! The chemistry set I always dreamed of!"
The voice explains that an elder needs her diagnosis within one hour or they kill Crystal. At which point, Lauren realizes "this is light Fae bullshit." (Her words, not mine.)

Back in Lauren's apartment, Bo realizes she doesn't know Lauren. At all. She doesn't even know her name.

With that face, there are definitely plenty more fish.
Kenzi (quite easily) finds the herb they need while actually sticking up for Lauren. And also while feeling super guilty about not telling Bo that she sorta kissed Dyson when she was away.

They then realize they can't get out, because Massimo has fire trapped them inside.

Mommy, why is the fire blue?
Back over at police wolf headquarters, Tamsin is being adorable as ever.

She also asks Dyson what love feels like, which is kinda cringey, but he does explain that when she feels it, she'll know.

Pow Pow. So cute.
She also admits that she thinks Bo hates her. Nawww.

In Lauren's apartment, Bo and Kenzi realize that Massimo has actually proofed the place so that Fae don't get out, so obviously, Bo washes Kenzi's fairy dust magic away by dumping a bucket of water on her head.

Heheheh.
Kenzi is, not surprisingly, unimpressed. Nevertheless, she leaves to collect the ingredients to take down the fire so that Bo can get out.

While she's gone, Bo goes snooping through Lauren/Karen/Amber's things and finds a box and a card.

Warning: May contain feels.
She reads the card aloud (uh, very realistic), which says "For giving me the freedom to love. And I do." No. I don't want to ship them. Shut up, past Lauren! (Oh also, the box contains a super pretty - and probably expensive - necklace.)

All of a sudden, Bo becomes startled and thinks it's the wanderer.

Nope.
Turns out, it's this guy again. And in true Lost Girl fashion, there is never an explanation for it.

Kenzi returns and breaks down the anti-Fae barrier, while Tamsin (back at the police station) realizes that she has some pretty nasty scars on her back.

Ouch.
Apparently today is confession Monday, because Kenzi becomes so overcome with guilt that she tells Bo she kissed Dyson, when - wait for it - SHE ONLY WANTS TO KISS HALE! (KC Collins.) Yes yes yes yes!

Obviously Bo is mad at her because of all the lying she's been doing. But Kenzi love/likes Hale so I don't care. YAAAAY!

However, she does tell Kenzi that she's not alone and she has her back... but Kenzi brings up the fact that Bo left her for so long, and Kenzi recognizes that she's just not "one of them", no matter how hard she tries.

Hmm. I don't like smug Bo.
Bo goes back to being angry and right on cue, Dyson calls. Fabulous.

He tells her that he's lost Tamsin. Great. And Bo quickly figures out that if Massimo has Kenzi's hairbrush, which has also brushed Tamsin's hair, then maybe that's where she is. Because valkyrie hair apparently has some desirable qualities? I guess I missed this part.

This is way too kinky for someone with a child's brain.
He straps Tamsin to a chair after he tricks her into thinking that he's just protecting everyone from her monstrous side.

He gets all creepy with her hair, and luckily Bo walks in. Unfortunately he gets the better of her and holds a knife to her neck but, wait, what's this?

Holy pegasus!
Whoa, Tamsin has wings!

Oh looky here, Lauren has a diagnosis. Apparently this elder has been feeding off his own kind (blood relatives - ew) which is turning him insane. Incestuous goodness.

Lauren also thinks she's outsmarted whoever is holding her captive. She's all "if you used your brain, you'd have figured this out" and then shows off the fact that Kenzi taught her how to pick a lock and her handcuffs fall right off.

Chains and handcuffs. Big Brother really got brutal this year.
Lauren attempts to make a deal: she'll treat the elder if they let Crystal go. Then she just gets cocky and yells "Did I pass your ridiculous test? Because if I did, you can come on out, Hale!"

Hale? Oh no. Dr. Lauren has been outsmarted because I get the feeling that it wasn't Hale who did this. (Side bar: HAHAHAHA THE ALL KNOWING DOCTOR GOT IT WRONG. HA. HA. GLOAT. GLOAT. Okay, I'm done.)

Calm, down Angel face!
Tamsin gets super-valkyrie on asshole Massimo, but Bo asks her not to kill him.

Tamsin doesn't really love that idea though, because she thinks Bo despises her. It's time for Bo's confession now, as she admits that she doesn't hate Tamsin. And in fact, she thought she was incredible.

Ugh. I love them.
They hug, and Tamsin utters "that's what love feels like." DOES THIS MEAN SHE LOVES HER? PLEASE SAY YES. I CAN'T. GO ON WITHOUT ME.

Bo tells Tamsin to leave and Massimo informs Bo that Tamsin is in fact on her last life if she has her wings. NOOOOOOOOO.

Loser boy.
Here's a run down of the things we learn within the next two minutes:

1) Massimo is not a druid. He's actually human. Ha!
2) It was most definitely not him who sent the gargoyles after Bo.
3) Massimo explains that gargoyles threaten whoever threatens their masters. (Elder Fae.)
4) He needs Tamsin's hair "for his mother."

Then he cries. Pahaha. Bo throws the hair in the fire, prompting him to jump in after it. Oh. Goodbye then.

Mmm sweaty Bo.
Back in the boxing ring, Bo tells Kenzi she doesn't hate her. Yay! They make up and all is well.

They go home and Dyson explains to Kenzi that he can teach her some tricks to help her become a little more Fae. NOW you tell us?!

So... Hairy.
Then he admits that he's lost Lauren. Whoops. But he does vow to find her. It appears that they are all warming up to Lauren a little.

In the final scene, we're taken to wherever the hell the Una Mens live. And this is THE BEST PART.

One of the Una Mens tells Bo that their intention was to "eliminate the unaligned succubus." In other words, they just wanted to get rid of the unaligned part.

WHAT?!

She then goes on to say "your blood has spoken. You have chosen a side."

HOW?!

Apparently Bo is unaware too because she just asks "what side?"

Holy tits, whaaaat?!
As the music intensifies and the camera slowly zooms in, the Una Mens replies:

"You are dark."

***

OOH. OOOOOH! I kinda always wanted her to be dark.

But what does this mean? How on Earth did Bo choose to be dark when she wasn't even aware of it? What is going on? SO MANY QUESTIONS!

What did you think of this week's episode? Better than last week's, right?

Comment below - we love to hear from you!
