Lost Girl S04E03 Recap: "Lovers. Apart."

WARNING: This article quite clearly contains spoilers of the highest level!

by Lauren W

The good news? There's a bunch of Bo (Anna Silk) in this episode.

The bad news? Kenzi (Ksenia Solo) and Tamsin (Rachael Skarsten) are absent.

Hmm.

As anticipated, our first scene involves Dyson (Kris-Holden Reid) and Cleo (Mia Kirshner) finally getting to the train where Bo was being held captive.

"Such a good kisser."

Also kinda predictably, the pair find the maid Bo left behind with a smile on her face, and they realize that Bo is no longer aboard. All that time wasted.

Oh look, there she is! Running through some kind of woods in her gown.

All that dirt and still we want her.
Bo also stumbles upon a creepy old house and is caught sneaking in by the owners. But more about that later.

Cut to Lauren's (Zoie Palmer) house, which The Morrigan (Emmanuelle Vaugier) seems to have moved into! HELL YES! But what is she up to?

Channelling Elle Driver, are we?
Look what we have here: Crystal (Ali Liebert) flirting with an ever-so-adorable science nerd.

TOUCH HER, I DARE YOU.
Crystal is all "I need a little sugar" but Lauren (Zoie Palmer) once again shoots her down. Gosh darn, woman!

Bo wakes up to these two oddballs, who are knitting.

Creeps.
Bo's eyes turn super blue (like they do) and she hears someone whispering "kill them all." You know, after watching this show since the beginning, it's kind of worrying that this is one of the less creepy things I've seen.

The Father enters, who just happens to be played by Greg from Scary Movie (Lochlyn Munro). (I can't help it, that's how I will always remember him.)

Also known as "that douchebag from Charmed."
Greg/the Dad is not too fond of Bo being around. We don't quite know why yet, but Bo also recognizes that the daughter kinda reminds her of Kenzi. Oh, Kenzi. We do hate an episode without your presence.

He kicks Bo out of the house, but being the curious little Fae she is, Bo decides to explore first. And this show being as creepy as previously mentioned, she finds a holding cell in the basement.

Not exactly The Ritz, is it?
It's not that easy though. The family find Bo snooping around and Greg seems to be wielding a shot gun.

Bo expresses her disgust at how Greg keeps his family captive, but she clearly has the wrong end of the stick. He explains that for years his family have been inexplicably dying because a ghost has been haunting them. It all sounds very lame. But Lost Girl will redeem itself by giving the story some substance, I'm sure.

Whoa, whoa, sonny boy.
Bo volunteers to keep the daughter (who I believe is named Julia) company in her cell. But the Father is dead against it and kicks her out once and for all... or so he thinks.

Meanwhile, the Morrigan convinces this terrified looking guy to make her a new eye.

If women ruled the world...
It's kind of a shame, because she looks badass wearing that eye patch.

Bo, who looks super adorable, makes a quick return to Julia's cell.

How can someone so sexy be this cute?
Unfortunately, Bo is experiencing abdominal pains and mistakenly calls Julia "Kenz". Aw.

Julia shows Bo a scrapbook of all the deaths in her family caused by that darned ghost, which includes this intriguing newspaper snippet:

Wait a minute...
Lost Girl, I'm kinda seeing through your plot twist here. But as long as you keep this damn sexy cast, I don't think I care that much. Anyway, Bo vows to get the daughter out of the cell.

Back in the woods, Cleo and Dyson have a (slightly strange) informant who has seen Bo.

And still not as strange as half the things on this show.
The dude in the ground (who's name is quite simply John - cute), says he has seen a succubus... but won't tell them which direction she went unless he gets a good ol' lick of Dyson's foot. Foot fetish? Really? Still, for comedy purposes, I like it.

Bo and Julia evacuate the house, which is surrounded by this line with a bunch of shoes tied onto it. According to legend, the ghost can't get into the house until she's tried on "all the shoes and untied all the knots." Also cute.

Cute, yet creepy.
Julia is quite clearly buying NONE of this shit, and runs straight under the line. It seems that Bo realizes that this is not a myth at all though, and that the ghost is actually a body jumper Fae.

Yup, Julia is now possessed.

Just put the gun down, dude. This is CANADA.
Safe to say, Greg is not happy and volunteers to kill his own daughter. Drastic much? Then the plot twist is finally revealed (the one we saw coming) and Greg explains that it was really him who killed his family and not his father. Duh.

Anyway, he doesn't want his daughter to live with what he had to live with. (Fair enough.) So he will kill her in cold blood. (Not so reasonable.)

Anyone else in love with Ali Liebert?
Over at the diner, Lauren questions Crystal on why she's really there. She explains that she's just kind of bad luck, and she's decided to expect less from life. In fact, you can tell by Lauren's reaction that she finds this super endearing.

At which point, she invites Lauren to drop by with pizza and beer whenever she likes. Aw yeah. Wink wink.

Bo and Julia are fighting to the death when:

Ugh. Way to play the damsel in distress card, Lost Girl.
Dyson saves her. Yawn.

Fortunately, this next image saves the day.

But what could possibly save our lesbian hearts from that hairy dude, you ask?

Unf.
Yes, that is Ali Liebert in her underwear. Let the fun commence.

Back at the spooky manor, the ghost has made it's way into Mia Kirshner's body. (No pun intended.)

Actually, I wouldn't mind watching this threeway.
But quite rapidly, the body jumper jumps back to Julia, who slits her Mother's throat. Wonderful news. Cleo explains she can fetch a plant that will stop the bleeding (take that, medical science), and runs off to find it.

And we cut to the pizza/beer party, hosted by Crystal. It doesn't take much until...

Ahem. Dr. Lauren, where is your hand right now?
Yes. Finally. The first sex scene of season 4. And it does NOT disappoint. Get in there, Lauren.

What? Oh, right. There's other stuff happening in this episode.

Who now?
Bo absorbs the chi of possessed Julia, and is transported to... The 19th century? This is kinda confusing. But then we realize the lady above is actually the body jumper, who tells Bo how this family's ancestors killed her boyfriend when he jumped in front of a bullet for her.

"Lovers. Apart." Ah. I get it. Much clearer than last week's title, "Sleeping Beauty School."

Heh.
The Morrigan has an eye again! Sad face. And the dude who helped her out lets her know that he was the one helping Tamsin to get rid of Bo. Of course without hesitation, the Morrigan sets out to wreak havoc. I can't wait until she finds out that Bo isn't really gone...

Speak of the devil.

Ooh. Pretty.
Bo and Dyson bind their hands together (while Bo is possessed by the body jumper) and "get married". Apparently this is the only way to get rid of her once and for all. The bonus is that the body jumper and her husband now get to be together forever.

Lost Girl could not be less subtle with its metaphors, however. "Bo" and "Dyson" getting married? Come on, make it more obvious.

The spooky phone of death? New Fae, maybe?
Lauren gets back to work in the morning and is super creeped out because someone has constantly been calling, while looking for "Karen". Ut oh. They're onto her.

She starts to flee and runs to tell Crystal she has to leave. They kiss. It's bittersweet. Anyway, she runs.

Is it just me or is this strangely hot?
When it looks like Bo has escaped, we are reminded that Cleo was only helping Dyson out in order to get Bo back to Vex. (Paul Amos.)

What Cleo doesn't know is that Bo secretly got her health back, and she defeats her with ease. Cleo collapses to the floor. Is Mia Kirshner gone forever? Who knows.

Bo and Dyson steal a car and leave... and for some reason they have no memory of the death train.

In the meantime, Lauren is hitch hiking when yay! Crystal pulls up in her car.

But then...

Not so yay.
Crystal apologizes to Lauren and right on cue, someone stifles her screams and pulls her into the back seat.

Rather coincidentally, Bo and Dyson drive past the scene of the crime, and Bo suggests that they stop to help "those guys with the flat tyre." Yes! Obviously Dyson shoots her down though, and says he'd rather just get her home.

Prick.

And there the show comes to an end for another week. And once again it ends with Dyson being an ass.

What did you think of this week's episode? Did you miss Kenzi as much as I did? Comment below!

Lost Girl S04E01 Recap: "In Memoriam"

WARNING: This article quite clearly contains spoilers of the highest level!

by Lauren W

FINALLY. Lost Girl is back. I can practically hear the fandom's sigh of relief.

So how did the season premiere fare this time? Let me summarize for you.

We start with everyone's favourite human, Kenzi, (sorry, Lauren fans), rolling out from underneath a super cool pick-up truck, of course.

Ksenia Solo, still cute as ever.
Kenzi, along with some witty comments about the (presumably) Fae that drove her there, finds a creepy-looking, probably mystical box that is bound together with rope. Will we find out what's in Pandora's Box? Who knows. But Kenzi does mutter the words "The Una Mens" before she gets caught. Click HERE for an ultra-creepy Lost Girl webisode about these mysterious creatures.

Obviously Kenzi is saved from the wrath of a dark Fae male by everyone's least favourite cock-block, Dyson (Kris Holden-Reid) and Hale (KC Collins). But only after she proves to the unnamed Fae that she is not human.

What the hell? Kenzi is Fae now?
That's right, Kenzi's hands omit adorably Kenzi fireworks. And this is how you know this first episode is going to be a major mind-fuck.

Cut to Bo (Anna Silk's) and Kenzi's apartment and... Wait, WHAT?

Ew. Ew. No. This is wrong.
Kenzi and Dyson are making out? STOP. My eyes are burning. If Kenzi can't be with Hale, she has to be with Bo. Not the wolf man. Please. No really, stop that.

The mind fuck continues as the pair of them have clearly got no memory of Bo even existing. Can someone unscramble this mystery now? My brain hurts.

Aaand cue plot twist! Aoife, Bo's biological Mother, turns up at the door.

Who cares how old this woman is? LOOK at her.
And what's that? She's asking Kenzi to find her long lost daughter, Bo. So where the hell is she? I don't think we're finding out any time soon.

Aoife explains to the pair of them that parts of their memories have been erased when she shows them a weird-ass blemish in her eye.

...nice.
So of course Kenzi and Dyson agree to help.

Enter Trick (Rick Howland) talking some more about The Una Mens (who?) and advising Kenzi to go see some eye guy named Snook. Or Snuck. Snooki? Anyway, he looks like this:

Little bit gross, little bit annoying. You get the picture.
They find out that Snook(uck) isn't responsible for the weird eye splodges and... OH! Guess what? Kenzi and Dyson have been affected too. Who is responsible? AND WHERE IS BO?

Kenzi returns to Trick, who imparts some knowledge. He tells her to restore their memories they have to find some compass. Apparently the name of said compass flies over Kenzi's head too, as she names it "Ricky Martin". That will do. Not sure how the compass fixes things but there ya go.

Collectibles? Really?
Trick notices that some of his collectibles have gone missing... and of course Kenzi has tried to jack them. This isn't particularly crucial to the plot, but it was a humorous scene. And we all know how well Ksenia does comedy.

Next up, ah, the return of Vex (Paul Amos). Love him. Hate him... Love to hate him.

The original sass-master at work.
There he is and apparently he's the new leader of the Dark Fae. Rest in peace, Morrigan. He proceeds to burn his assistant's face with an iron and hire a caterer who can cook fugu. It makes a lot more sense when you actually watch it... In short, Vex is planning a party.

As Dyson and Hale enter a nightclub to find the compass, Kenzi (after leaving a quick, heartfelt voicemail for Dr. Lauren (Zoie Palmer) on her cell phone), is accompanied by some guy who rubs magic fairy dust into her shoulders. So THAT's where she's getting her Fae powers from.

And the award for creepiest dude of the season goes to...
Yes, he gets touchy feely, and we soon find out that it's because Kenzi can't afford to pay him. So obviously he suggestively thinks of "other ways" for Kenzi to settle her debts. Ew. And off to the party she goes!

Wait...

Oh. My.
What a transformation! I mean, she always looks hot but damn, Kenzi rocks a backless dress and an up-do. Dyson, Kenzi and Hale set to think of ways to impress the host of this party. (Who just so happens to come in the form of Star Trek's George Takei.)

And what better way to impress than via Argentine Tango? You'll see...

Just when you're about to see Kenzi and Hale hit the dancefloor, WHOA hello Mia Kirshner.

Sorry, having L Word flashbacks.
Is that Crazy Eyes? Is it Jenny Schecter? Nope, it's Cleo apparently. And despite not doing much this episode other than flirt with Dyson (seriously, why? He is not attractive), she's in this episode and hopefully returning for more. We shall see...

Anyway, here's a snippet from the tango, including Dyson getting so jealous that Hale is dancing with Kenzi that he once again cockblocks and joins in.

Damn, legs.
And if you didn't know Ksenia was a trained dancer and actually starred in the Oscar-winning Black Swan before, well now you do.

Kenzi scores a rose, which means a visit to George Takei. Oh, I should also mention that he's a snake and he wants to eat Kenzi.

Do I get bonus points for this awesome screen cap?
Back in the party room, everyone's fleeing because Vex has arrived. Yes, he may have forced a woman to snap her own neck, but he also arrived wearing killer heels. And who can't appreciate a man who can do a cartwheel in 6 inchers?

Vex, giving FrankNFurter a run for his money.
Basically, he declares himself the new leader of the Dark Fae, Dyson and Hale stop him from causing too much chaos, and they find out that Vex has also lost all memory of Bo ever existing.

Oddly though, Tamsin (Rachel Skarsten) is only mentioned once throughout the entire episode... WHERE ARE OUR LADIES?!

Dyson saves Kenzi from George "The Snake" Takei and in some random back alley, it's Trick and Aoife!

Aoife loses her memory... and becomes nice? What?
Aoife greets Trick with a sincere "Hi, Daddy" (aww), until Dyson and Kenzi realign the Ricky Martin compass and everyone's memory is restored! Not such a great thing though, as Aoife goes back to being a royal bitch. Why? Also a mystery.

The good news is, Dyson and Kenzi instantly remember Bo. Bazinga. Hit the jackpot.

Cut to the unidentified box from the beginning of the episode and... Is that Dr. Lauren? She's a redhead? Her name is Amber?

Lauren/Amber finally remembers her darling. Yay!
One last thing...

We know those eyes anywhere.
Looks like Bo is awake! Not sure where she is, and I am suddenly realizing that the settings for most of Lost Girl are kind of ambiguous.

And that concludes our first recap! Did I miss anything? What did you enjoy about the season premiere? Let us know in the comments!

Thankyou... Or good riddance?

****WARNING: THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T YET WATCHED 'THE L WORD' FINALE.****

Mostly, all I've heard about the L Word finale was that it sucked.

And yeah I guess it did: there were story lines left unresolved (such as whether Alice and Tasha stayed together) and no one even knows who killed Jenny.

But surely we should be thanking L creator Ilene Chaiken for giving lesbians their first ever mainstream show.

There have been highs - pot brownie parties, TiBette sex!, sou chefs - and lows - Dana's death, Tina having sex with men and Max in general - but the main thing is that there was something for lesbians to watch without having to cringe over constant boy/girl sex scenes. (Okay, so it included some heterosexual content too, but predominantly, the sex was girl on girl.)

Also, people always says that most of the actresses gracing our screen, which include Jennifer Beals, Laurel Holloman and Rachel Shelley, don't look like 'conventional' lesbians. But really, who cares?! They're all beautiful, talented and smokin' hot! Lately I've realized that lesbians just like to find stupid stuff to rant and moan about!

Take, for instance, the fact that Lindsay Lohan 'decided' earlier this year that she was gay. Of course, there was a huge uproar by the lesbian community claiming Lindsay was 'doing it for publicity.' Well... So what if she was?! If you don't pay attention to it and it turns out that a week later she's no longer a massive dyke, then who cares? Just let the girl do what she wants!

The last time I blogged, I gave some advice to the straight parents out there. Well, lesbians, now it's your turn: Stop complaining about stupid little things! Life's too short!

On behalf of all the lesbians-who-don't-constantly-moan committee, I say thank you Ilene, for laughs, tears and totally unrealistic story lines. :)
