Let's fight this together!

So I'm pretty sure all (or most!) of you have heard of the 'No on Prop 8' campaign. Yeah? Well, photographer Adam Bouska has teamed up with a string of celebs who are also against prop 8, in a bid to start a silent protest against gay marriage discrimination.

Above is one of hundreds of photos taken by Bouska. And yes, your eyes did see correctly. The picture is of senator John McCain's daughter Meghan! Republicans aren't all so bad after all. (Did I really say that?...)

Anyway, I'd just like to point out what an amazing job Bouska and his team are doing. A lot of work obviously goes into capturing, editing and publishing the photographs, not to mention the videos they make and send out on YouTube!

As you can see, there are a lot of famous people supporting the cause - from actors to politicians - so here are just a few to get started. Go to http://www.bouska.net/ for the full collection!

Skins US? No thanks.

I briefly mentioned Skins in my last blog. And I feel like I need to mention it again.

I wasn't actually a fan of the show until series 3, which saw the romance between Naomi (Lily Loveless, below right) and Emily (Kathryn Prescott, below left) blossom. (I won't give anything away, so there's no need to beware of spoilers!)

As you can see, they're impossibly adorable. My personal favorite being Naomi. YUM.

The way in which the relationship is portrayed by the writers is enough to draw anyone in. The reason I say this is because of the realism of both the storyline and the acting. Any teen living in the UK can recognize that the whole of the Skins franchise is exactly the same as real life.

Obviously, lesbian relationships on TV are often done in the wrong way (think Lesbian Vampire Killers and shudder as much as you like.) But Skins is different. It shows all of the things that would really happen - resistance, being frightened, giving in - showing viewers an overall realistic look into teen lesbian romance.

The fact that producers in America are proposing to create a 'Skins USA' however disappoints me.

British television, for whatever reason, is always allowed to be that bit more racy and explicit than American television. In fact, I'm surprised that The L Word got away with all the stuff they did. Take Sugar Rush as an example.

When it took to US screens, the public were shocked. Usually, they are confined to the 'peck-on-the-lips' sort of lesbian relationship. *cough* Spashley. But Sugar Rush displayed full on girl-on-girl sex scenes, leaving nothing to the imagination.

Say 'I' if you too don't want to ruin Skins by 'americanizing' it!

Top 20 Gorgeous Ladies

I totally decided to copy my friend's blog. But it was just so tempting! I've actually been thinking of doing this for a while too, so I don't feel THAT bad.

So here goes, from 20 down to 1!

20. Mandy Musgrave.

If you've never heard of South of Nowhere, I don't blame you. Not because the show sucked or anything, it was actually quite good. But you've probably never heard of it because it was stupidly cancelled after 3 seasons! Anyway, here we have Mandy Musgrave, who played bad girl Ashley Davies in the teen drama. With her sexy voice and even sexier body, how could you go wrong?!

19. Kathryn Prescott.

Chances are, if you're not from the UK, you've never witnessed the greatness of the Naomi-Emily relationship on Skins. But it is the show that has forced me, along with many other lesbians, to fall in love with cutesy Miss Prescott. Seriously, she is so adorable!

18. Laurel Holloman.

Unlike Mandy and Kathryn, the lovely Laurel Holloman seems to be a classic lesbian favorite. Debuting in lesbian flick The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls In Love, Laurel later went on to play the charming Tina Kennard in The L Word.

17. Rachel Shelley.

From looking at the picture above, you instinctively realize the sheer sex appeal of Rachel Shelley. Another L Word veteran, she also starred in horror The Children and TV Series Ghost Whisperer last year.

16. Mia Kirshner.

Again, another L Word alumni, but you must understand that creator Ilene Chaiken just cast so many beautiful women, I couldn't refuse them a place in my list! Kirshner is one of the few who is a well known figure who is also out in the public eye. She used her looks to captivate us all in movies such as The Black Dahlia and Not Another Teen Movie.

15. Melinda Clarke.

Now this O.C. beauty is what I call the definition of 'M.I.L.F'! Nothing more to it.

14. Clementine Ford.

She was hot when she was in the closet, and she's even hotter now she's out. Daughter of Cybill Shepherd and actress in her own right, pictures like the one above helped us realize that Ford has an androgynous side too. And we like it!

13. Kate Hudson.

Sparkly and bubbly on the outside, Kate Hudson has an air of classiness about her. Whatever it is that makes her so sexy, we can't resist the nice, girl-next-door type in the end.

12. Jessica Capshaw.

Starring as Dean Porter's fling Nadia on The L Word and now as half of 'Calzona' (a delectably cute lesbian couple on ABC's Grey's Anatomy,) there's no doubt that Capshaw is a favorite amongst the sapphic kind.

11. Lily Loveless.

The other half of the Naomi-Emily couple on UK drama Skins, there's something about Lily that makes us want to buy her a drink. She seems fun, intelligent and undeniably HOT!

10. Bridget McManus.

I'm a strong believer that someone can 'laugh you into bed', and this is a perfect example. Comedienne Bridget is sexy, sassy and downright hilarious! With an awesome personality and looks to match, what's not to like?

9. Charlize Theron.

The picture says it all, doesn't it? One of the most well-paid actresses in Hollywood right now, Ms. Theron is utterly beautiful. And with all that talent added to the most stunning body, I wouldn't say no!

8. Jennifer Beals.

From her 80s debut in Flashdance to her 6 year stint as Bette Porter in The L Word, Jennifer has always been a lesbian favorite. Well who can blame us? As one of the older women on the list, she's still one of the most naturally beautiful!

7. Leisha Hailey.

Musicians are hot. Musicians who are out are even hotter. Out musicians who are painfully funny are smokin' hot! All that, and she has the cutest laugh ever. No wonder all the lesbians want Leish.

6. Olivia Wilde.

Any hot blooded female (or male, for that matter) wouldn't say no to Olivia. The fact that she has now played bisexual characters in both The O.C. and House, do you think she's trying to tell us something? We surely hope so!

5. Jill Bennett.

One of the lesser known ladies on our list as a whole, Jill Bennett is everything a lesbian should be: quick-witted and beautiful with a 'don't give a f*ck' attitude. Part of Jill's sex appeal is that she's not afraid to be herself. She's loud and she's proud and we love it.

4. Angelina Jolie.

I'm pretty sure that no 'hot women' list is complete without Angelina Jolie somewhere in it. She's frequently described as the most beautiful woman in the world, and I can see where they're coming from. The fact that she's openly bisexual doesn't hurt, either...

3. Megan Fox.

Some would say Megan is just the next generation Angelina Jolie. But with the Transformers movie already scooping bigger bucks than any of Jolie's flicks, who knows where we'll see Megan next. She's been known to say some god damn stupid things, but she still makes me drool.

2. Sara Ramirez.

One look at Sara and you'll know it's true: curves are so sexy. Spanish accents? Also super sexy. The fact that Ramirez and a fantastic voice too makes me fall in love with her that little bit more. And I'm not complaining that she's currently playing gay on ABC's Grey's Anatomy with our number 12!

So who will it be? You're probably thinking 'but any one of those ladies could be number 1!' That may be true, but it's down to personal choice here. So here goes...

1. Eliza Dushku.
Since Buffy ended, we saw very little of Dushku. But now her new show Dollhouse has started, we're seeing a little of Eliza every week, which should actually be part of the law. Everything about her is sexy: from her body, to her talent, to her voice. And if you don't agree... Are you sure you're gay?

So that's all! Who are your favorite ladies that I missed? Which of the ones I have mentioned stand out to you? Comment below!

Gay pride? Gay FAIL!

It's not often I say that gays fail at life, but in this case, they do.

Think of a gay pride parade: fun, energetic, colourful and, of course, super-duper GAY! So then why on earth did the organizers come up with the stupid idea to put every bloody pride celebration on a SATURDAY?!!?

Now I understand that many are only free on Saturdays because of work or study committments etc, but this is not the case for me. For me, Saturday is my most hectic day, as I have to work from 9.30am until 8.45pm. You may be thinking 'Just get the day off!' But in my profession, that is easier said than done. You see I'm the head of tap at a large dance school where I live, and I can't full well adjust the whole timetable just to suit my needs.

I'm not actually a fan of my job - it's inflexible and means I have to deal with children all the time (which I am not a fan of, by the way) - so maybe just this once the organizers of pride could put their festivities on a weekday. Just maybe?

I'm guessing this will never happen, but it makes me sad because I've only ever been to pride once, and that was on holiday in London. It was amazing, needless to say, which just makes it worse that I've never had the opportunity to go again.

NOTE: Changed my mind, gays don't fail at life. I've decided there are probably some heterosexual organizers who are out to get me putting a spanner in the works. HETEROSEXUALS, YOU FAIL AT LIFE!!

I'll give you a REAL playlist, iTunes.

When I realized what a crappy 'Gay Pride: Girls' playlist iTunes had included in their store, I was super confused: no gay lady would consider the majority of these songs worth listening to, or in fact, gay related at all. (AfterEllen.com recently blogged about this, but I thought I'd create my own.)
Some songs on the iTunes list include:

'I Kissed a Girl' by Katy Perry - of course! All lesbians 'hope their boyfriend won't mind it'.
'All The Things She Said' by t.A.T.u - yet another fake couple who pretend to be gay for publicity.
'2 Become 1' by Spice Girls - What this song has to do with lesbians I don't know.

Some songs I can forgive them for are 'Angel' by Sarah McLachlan, 'Constant Craving' by k.d. Lang and 'Help Me' by Joni Mitchell. There are others, however, that just don't tickle my fancy.

I'm sure all you lesbians are shuddering at the iTunes list right now too, and all this raises a simple solution: GET SOME DAMN LESBIAN EMPLOYEES! Maybe then, we'd have a decent playlist listen to.

Here are the top 10 songs that would appear on my playlist (in no order):

1) Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks. (Who, by the way, didn't appear anywhere on iTunes' version!)
2) Beeline - Sky Larkin.
3) Kiss with a Fist - Florence and the Machine.
4) Poker Face - Lady GaGa. (Because yes, lesbians do like mainstream too, just not when it demotes homosexuality.)
5) Not Listening - Sick of Sarah.
6) Scared as F**k - An Horse.
7) Bad Education - Tilly and the Wall.
8) I U She - Peaches.
9) Back In Your Head - Tegan & Sara. (I agree with AfterEllen on this one!)
10) These Dreams - Heart.

Granted, you may not have heard some of these songs, but if you've been to gay pride recently, these are the sorts of songs being played. And I love it!

If you haven't heard them, download them! They're better songs than iTunes' drivel!

Lesbian Clichés (Part 2)

It's back! After popular demand, I've gone ahead and written 'Lesbian Clichés (Part 2)' a week early. Let's get cracking, shall we?

Cliché numero Seis: Tank Tops.

That's right, if you're thinking "well straight people wear them too!" - I know! I FREAKIN' KNOW! But what is a tell-tale sign when recognizing a dyke on the prowl? A tank top. a.k.a.
Wifebeater!

Yeah, yeah, the woman above is not a lesbo. But she is so hot. ;)

You will, however, find many famous lesbians including Cathy DeBuono and Jenny Shimizu wearing them. Chances are, if you're out in a bar or a nightclub, the girls in the tank tops are the gay ones! You can even get awesome lesbian themed versions for yourself at CafePress. (Like the one below!)

Cliché numero siete: U-Haul.

U-Haul? If you're a lesbian and reading this, I'm guessing you know what I'm talking about. For you non-lesbians, I'll explain...

U-Haul (also known as 'the lesbian urge to merge') is when a lesbian couple decide they are going to move in together after knowing each other for only a short time - sometimes even only a couple of weeks!

For example, my girlfriend and I have been seeing each other for 5 months now, and we have already decided we're going to buy an apartment together in London, have at least one child (that she will be carrying) and maybe get a pet cat/dog. All this in five months? Not that I'd know, but I'm sure most straight couples would be totally freaked out by this notion at only 5 months...

On that note, does anyone know why this is? How come lesbians decide this stuff so quickly?

Cliché numero ocho: Ties.

Perhaps made more mainstream by The L Word's Shane (Kate Moennig), ties are a dead give away when spotting a lesbian.

Again, no idea why this is, but dykes (especially soft butches) tend to wear ties a lot. Not to look smart or presentable, perhaps just to look cool? Whatever, it works!

Cliché numero nueve: Being Butch.

Now I'm not saying all lesbians are butch, I'm saying that straight people think all lesbians are butch.

Now I know this is factually inaccurate - I myself am a HUGE femme. Right now, I'm wearing Barbie pink nail polish and girly eyeliner, so why is this a preconceived notion among straight people? Maybe we should show them some real femmes. Or haven't they heard of Portia De Rossi?

Cliché numero diez: Gay Bumper Stickers!

So they're not exclusive to lesbians, but to gays in general. I guess they're just our little way of letting other gays know!

Aww, doesn't it look pretty? You know you want a gay bumper sticker... Unless you already have one... And if you do, get more! MOAR!

And that's it! I'm sure there are hundreds more. If you think of any, let me know and I'll think about put a 'part 3' together. Until next time!
