Remember a while back when I reviewed this little lesbian band? (Click HERE if you don't!)
Well look here: they have some new music for you!
New song 'Matches' sounds half like something from The Hunger Games soundtrack, and half like something dreamy and otherworldly that Daughter would write.
Check it out here if you're into that sort of vibe:

“BLUE MOON OF
KENTUCKY”.THE SONG MARKS THE
VETERAN GUITARIST’S OFFICIAL SINGING DEBUT AND FIRST SINGLE OFF OF HER UPCOMING
EP “THE MAGICIAN"
PORTLAND, OR -
Former FBI agent turned singer/songwriter, Susan Surftone is back with her
first digital dose of riptide-ready rock and roll for 2016.
One of the
premiere female surf guitarists of our time, Surftone has released her
brand new single called “Blue Moon of Kentucky”:http://cdbaby.com/cd/susansurftone9
"I chose to cover "Blue Moon of Kentucky" because
it was the second song Elvis Presley ever recorded. On this song he's not a
polished vocalist and neither am I. He's singing in a higher key because he's
young, only 19, and that higher key is easier for me, “ says Susan
Surftone. "I’ve been singing to Elvis all my life in private and I thought
maybe it's time to do it in public. The song itself is a bluegrass song written
by Bill Monroe. It gives me an opportunity to play a different lead guitar
style than my usual style. I just really like the song.”
“Blue Moon of
Kentucky” is Surftone’s first single off of her upcoming EP dubbed “The
Magician”, due out onJuly 5, 2016.
The Magician is a
little bit of departure from her old style as it sees Surftone - after
recording four instrumental albums- stepping out of her instrumental-rock
comfort zone to step in front of the mic and make her debut vocal performance
on 3/3 of the songs - including the track “Little Bit Lied To”, which she
personally penned.
Surftone is no
stranger to breaking grounds.
The New York
native had, early on already defied convention by learning how to write and
perform electric guitar music instead of contenting herself with listening and
dancing along (like most other girls) to the day’s big boy bands.
To say that
Surftone plays a mean guitar is to put it mildly. Now more than merely a
great female guitarist, Susan has established herself as a terrific
player.
Yet the road to
success was not an easy one and she certainly paid her dues.
After she graduated
from law school at Boston University, the Federal Bureau of Investigation
approached her about becoming an agent. She took the job with the F.B.I. at the
height of the Cold War before plugging in her guitar permanently.
Since then the
Portland, Oregon resident has led her own stellar group, TheSurfTones, through
many many album releases—at least thirteen—as Susan and The
SurfTones. From Without A Word (1995), Thunderbeach (1996)
and This Ain’t No Beach Party (1999) and onto later classics
like 2007’s There She Goes Again—Susan and The SurfTones Play The VU (Velvet
Underground), Susan has stayed the course of her sound,.
Through the years
she has always been a strong advocate of encouraging girls to play guitar and
start bands, and while she may be a rarity in the genre of surf rock, she
certainly now has a prolific discography recorded with her previous bands not
to mention her solo albums.

Los Angeles, CA – Humble yet handsome is the brotherhood of Reasons Be. The pop duo is releasing their new single “Say Goodnight,” available oniTunes, with a music video to top it off. Two musicians couldn’t be more perfect together and the Reasons Be men have been getting recognized all over the indie music scene for their undeniable talent. Their tasteful music touches on real-life matters and relays them in a way that is salacious and satisfying. As their musical alliance gets stronger, the music gets better and their fan base gets bigger. The band has a huge following that are dedicated to seeing them rise to the top.
Driven by a pop-friendly mix of electronic sounds and folk-inspired guitar chords, the single “Say Goodnight” is defined by the free-flowing and aesthetically pleasing sound that is signature to the band. Featuring compelling lyrics for the lover’s ear, the song kicks off with a soft introduction that bursts into orchestral layers of synths and rhythmic percussions during the chorus and carries throughout the song. Reflecting their undeniable chemistry, “Say Goodnight” showcases impressive harmonies and memorable lines that leave listeners singing after the song ends. Having done amazing production for big acts such as Puddle of Mudd, Rise Against, and Shinedown, producer and engineer Lee Miles utilizes his technical and creative chops to optimize the band’s acoustic sound and enhance it with mainstream capability.
Directed at the hands of Yannis Zafeiriou(Extreme Makeover), the music video is a tear-jerking visual to the single with an even more pensive script. Completely shot in slow motion Cinemascope, the video starts off with news of a pregnancy and ends with the revival of a woman by angels, encompassing the circle of life. Throughout the video, which was shot at locations around Los Angeles, there are two angels who constantly watch over the unfolding storyline, speaking to the notion of never wanting to say goodbye – as the song goes. “'Say Goodnight' is our finest art yet. It's relatable, powerful, and leaves you wanting more. The lyrics express the words your heart longs to say but maybe your mouth won't allow you to,” the pair explained.
There are many things you can find on Craigslist these days. Scotty and R.E.L are thankful to have found each other over an audition ad. The two are able to convey heavy emotion through their songs because each of them has experienced difficult situations in their lives. Shining with optimism and ambition, Reasons Be is a sonic energy ball waiting to explode with good music for all to enjoy. In their own words and mantra, live life and let the reasons be and visit www.ReasonsBe.comor www.Facebook.com/ReasonsBefor all the juicy updates.

Let's make sure The Cliks take the prize home!
After a five-year hiatus during which Lucas Silveira - the openly transgender
lead singer of The Cliks - finally found his true voice
(literally and figuratively speaking) - successfully going through a
female to male transition process - he has now returned to the music scene
with the a brand new Cliks album entitled “Black Tie Elevator”.
Silveira, now 33, made history in 2006, when he became the first out
transgender man to be signed to a major record label. Silveira's band The
Cliks, which formed in 2004, gained widespread acclaim after being featured on
the soundtrack of the Showtime series "The L Word."
A stint performing alongside artists like Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainwright
and Erasure on Cyndi Lauper's 2007 "True Colors" tour brought
additional attention to Silveira and his bandmates. The Cliks’ first two
major label releases, Snakehouse (2006- Warner Music Canada/Tommy Boy) &
Dirty King (2009-Warner Music Canada/Tommy Boy) brought the band international
recognition. In 2007, the Toronto Star deemed a transgender "pop
heartthrob," a title he cemented in 2010 when he was voted the “Sexiest
Canadian Man” in a Chart Attack end-of-year survey.
After half a decade of living as a man but appearing to most as a woman,
he began the formal process of testosterone hormone therapy. The
result was a voice that was changed, deeper and huskier, but somehow more
soulful. In 2010, his rebirth landed him in Brooklyn, NY, a home away from home
to concentrate on songwriting. He recorded a solo album “Mockingbird” and
wrote new songs for The Cliks next music venture, the blues and Motown-inspired "Black
Tie Elevator".
Transgenderism has been a hot topic lately particularly with the recent CNN
interview of Kristin Beck, a former Navy Seal, who transitioned from
man to woman and chronicled her life-changing experience in her book
"Warrior Princess": http://www.cnn.com/2013/06/07/us/transgender-veteran/index.html?hpt=hp_c4
We also remember Jenna Talackova, the 23-year-old who forced Donald
Trump to end a ban on transgender pageant contestants; not to
mention ABC announcement that Chaz Bono had joined the
popular "Dancing with Stars" primetime TV show a
couple of years ago; as well as last year's breaking news about Tom
Gabel, lead singer of "Against Me", who transitioned from
man to woman and was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine.
Yet controversy is still swirling around the transgender issue as a
majority of people still do not grasp the concept of transitioning from one
gender to another.
Learning about transgender lives can break stereotypes and help
audiences see the human side of an issue they may not have encountered
personally.
More than a story simply about a transgender’s ordeal, Lucas' tale is
about an extraordinary journey into happiness and being at peace with oneself
having found his true voice.
As always, we have some great LGBT music for you here on All Things Lesbian.
This time it comes from Myah Evans, the YouTube sensation who is only 18 years of age!
Starting off covering popular songs on YouTube, Myah began gaining many
views, and great feedback. She then set out to write and produce her debut EP,
“Familiar Things,” which was released on Christmas Day 2012. Through the
release of the EP, Myah has captured the ears of many with her soulful voice
and impactful lyrics. She has had the opportunity to take those songs on the
road to perform in not only Indianapolis, but also in Chicago, and she has
opened for American Idol's Josiah Leming.
One official music video has been
produced, being her song, “Brittle Bones,” which is featured on “Familiar
Things.” Attached below is her EP, her “Brittle Bones” music video, and Myah

You know what there's not enough of? Lesbian bands.
I mean sure, we currently have Hunter Valentine, Sick of Sarah and the like, but how about something different?
Check out this great interview we have with the lead singer of Syren, a band originally from the US and who are now stationed in the UK.
All Things Lesbian: For our
readers who haven't heard your music, describe your sound in 5 words or less. Erin Bennett, lead singer of Syren: Passionate, Lesbian Pop/Rock
ATL: Do you think its important for LGBT musicians to
"come out" in today's media and political climates?
EB: That's quite difficult. I think it is important
for LGBT people in music to know that they CAN come out but it is still very
difficult to build a largely successful career if you do. More artists are
coming out as bisexual (such as LadyGaga and Jessie J) and you also get the odd
male (Will Young, Adam Lambert) who come out as gay. There are not many 'out'
lesbian singers in today's mainstream pop world.
But for every artist that
faces the difficulties of publicly coming out it builds a firmer foundation for
new artists who want to begin their career as an openly
gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans artist. I believe the world's attitude towards
homosexuality is slowly changing and music is a perfect way to push that more
further forward because everyone loves music, music touches everyone in one way
or another. That's what I hope to do as an artist.
ATL: You're based in Scotland but born in Texas. Did you ever perform in Texas?
Would you say the atmosphere/music scene there is different to the
UK?
EB: (Laughs) Seems I played all the states but
Texas. I'd love to go back one day and do a gig there though. Especially in my
home town of Ft. Worth.
The music scenes in the UK and USA are relatively
the same. There are tons of hard rock bands and metal bands in both countries
and there seems to be a massive folk scene in both countries as well. The
states seem to have a bigger Country music scene than the UK, but that's a
typically American style of music. However, the live scene in America seems
slightly more accessible for bands and artists but I think that's probably
because the US is such a massive country. The UK is smaller so the music scene
is far more competitive. Truth be told though, I think that breeds better music
because you have to be really unique to stand out amongst the thousands of
bands that flood the venues around the country.
ATL: Who are some of your musical (and general life)
influences?
EB: I was hugely influenced by Heart, Queen, Janis Joplin
and Alanis Morrisette. They were so expressive and musically skilled. I wanted
to be THAT. But I grew up listening to everything from Motown, The Beatles,
Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and these days draw huge influence from artists like
KD Lang, KT Tunstall, Lissie and The Pierces.
As a general influence, I most admire Benazir
Bhutto. She was such a brave and beautiful woman and a real inspiration to
women all over the world.
ATL: Some of the proceeds from your music went to UK
based charity, Breast Cancer Care. Why? What are some other charities you're in
support of?
EB: Back in January 2012 I lost my wife (and Syren
drummer) Jo to breast cancer. It was a very rare but aggressive cancer that is
very hard to detect until after it metasticizes. (Inflammatory Breast Cancer) I
wrote 'Never Give Up The Fight' in her memory and released it in aid of Breast
Cancer Care because they had offered Jo so much information and support during
her treatment. I went on to win Songwriter of the Year at the 2012 Scottish New
Music Awards for that track and have since tried to use it as a way to reach
out to women and encourage them to get educated about breast cancer. So many
women (as well as men, actually) just don't know enough about how to look out
for it.
I'm also a huge supporter of LGBT groups
throughout the UK. I have recently been involved with some of Scotland's LGBT
groups in small-ish towns. Some LGBT people may feel uncomfortable about coming
out in such a tight knit community so I try to help inspire people to feel a
bit more confident and safe when they decide to come out.
ATL: Would you be interested in playing at any UK LGBT
pride festivals? Do you you have any up and coming gigs that our
readers should know about?
EB: I would love to play at Pride Festivals
throughout the UK. Syren is now a five piece band and we have already played a
couple of LGBT events. We will be playing the McGal Lesbian Festival in
Dunfermline, Scotland in late August as well at the Rainbow Kilts Festival in
the Scottish Borders in September. Apart from that we will be performing in Seaton,
Exeter in the end of March as part of Hawkwind's 'Hawkeaster' Festival. Any
other gigs will be confirmed and listed on our website and facebook pages.
