Britanna... On or Off?

***WARNING GLEEKS: SPOILER ALERT***

As you may or may not know, there's a constant lesbian 'ship', as tumblr addicts call it, within teen comedy/musical TV show Glee.

Yep, if you're a 'Gleek', you'll know of this non-lesbian love that's been hinted at since series 1.

With Jane Lynch playing an officially straight character on the show, lesbi-gleeks - and straight people! - everywhere have been routing for Brittany (Heather Morris) & Santana (Naya Rivera) to get together and have been optimistic ever since this infamous quote:

Santana : Sex is not dating.

Brittany : If it were, Santana and I would be dating.

And, although this is probably old news by now, for you late coming lesbians: BRITANNA ARE ON!

But how do we know that this is not just some rumour? The show's producer, Brad Falchuck, tweeted this earlier on in February:

Who's Gwyneth? I'm pretty sure all of you who don't follow the show are asking. Well none other than Gwyneth Paltrow, of course!

Stay tuned for more info and possibly an opinion or two on how the producers and writers handle the teen romance. With them doing such a good job with Kurt (Chris Colfer) on the show, we assume that Glee will not do the LGBT community an injustice.

Top Lesbian News of 2010.

I know I usually do this blog in December, but I thought it would make more sense doing it in January, just so I don't miss anything.

Obviously at the top of the gay news list for 2010 is the fact that Don't Ask, Don't Tell was repealed, giving gay service members in the US the right to fight for their country.

Helping the cause along the way was Adam Bouska's 'NOH8' campaign, in which hundreds of celebrities got their picture taken (as seen above) to support the marriage and civil service rights of gay people.

In a less up beat, positive side of politics, Constance McMillen made headlines this year refused to go to her high school prom, as the school would not let her take her girlfriend along with her.

Of course, there's always a silver lining - Constance's battle with homophobia from her school was so shocking that it earned her a place on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, in which she was interviewed and respected like any other celebrity. Props, Ellen.

On the entertainment side of things, there were a lot of 'outings' this year. (Take singer Ladyhawke and Amy Winehouse, for example.) But there were also a couple of fake outings that made the media headlines.

Yep, that's right, Nicki Minaj was outed this year as 'bisexual', which excited lesbian fans of hip/hop and r&b everywhere. But Minaj later dismissed the rumours, tweeting that 'us ppl r simple'.

Lesbian fan favourites 'Calzona' are still going strong on Grey's Anatomy (and by 'strong' we mean haven't been killed of yet), whilst, as far as I know, the young lesbians on Pretty Little Liars are also doing the gay community proud.

Lesbian favourite and The L Word alum Jane Lynch continued to be nominated for several awards and was a fan-favourite on Glee in 2010 - her success being something which she finds so surreal.

Although this 'news' is possibly something negative, lesbian reality show The Real L Word started this year, created by our favourite(?) lesbian producer, Ilene Chaiken.

Fabulous (again '?') news for next year too - The Real L Word is back for a second series in 2011, with Whitney apparently being at the forefront. Hmm... Only time will tell, ladies.

So what did I miss? Anything worth noting?

My Favourite African American Hotties

Firstly, don't take offence if your favourite isn't on this list as you did with the redheads, it's just personal opinion and we're all entitled to one.

Also, when I did my hottest 20 ladies, someone noted that there weren't many women of colour on my list. Again, it's just personal preference, but that's not to say there aren't no gorgeous African American women out there.

Hence the inspiration for this blog. And I've purposely left out the bi-racial, hispanic, asian etc, ladies, just because I want this blog to be dedicated to chocolate ladies only.

So here we go on my favourites. (In no order.)

Rose Rollins.

Yeah, yeah, 'Tasha from the L Word' is hot as a butch(-ish) soldier, but just check out how pretty she looks with long, flowing hair! Sexy and versatile. Perfect.

Alicia Keys.

Look at the cutie! Alicia has the voice of a soul sistah and I personally adore her music. Plus, a girl who knows how to play an instrument? HOT DAMN.

Nicki Minaj.

I'll probably get some stick for putting Minaj on the list, but she's America's top rapping mama right now and she's a cutie!

Michelle Obama.

I couldn't leave out America's first lady, could I? She's sassy and in amazing shape for an older woman. You work it, Mrs. O!

Gabrielle Union.

I first saw Gabrielle on camp cheerleading movie Bring It On and later on TV cult series Friends, and both times I thought 'wow, what a pretty woman!' Disagree? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

I could go on for quite a while, but that's all I have time for: my girlfriend just woke up due to noisy housemates, so I suppose I better go kiss her so she doesn't get cranky...

Because All Lesbians Are Ugly.

Can anyone remember when I informed you about Ladyhawke coming out?

Well, in the comments, I received quite a few relatively rude remarks about all lesbians being ugly. Of course, we've all heard the "she's only gay because no men want her" statement.

So I wanted to show you all that this is not the case.

Many, many gay women are extremely hot. Here are a few.

Portia De Rossi.

The other half of the world's most famous lesbian, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia is definitely hot. Is she gay? Yes. Could she get possibly any man in the world? Yes. Suck on that.

Chely Wright.

Also easy on the eyes is country singer, Chely. No one gets invited to pose in their underwear for FHM if they're not nice to look at, right?

Not to mention there are some pretty gorgeous bisexual ladies out there too: Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore and Anna Paquin to name but a few.

I'm not trying to typecast all the feminine queer women as the 'hot ones', but of course to a bigoted, heterosexual male, the only ones worth looking at are the girly ones. They're generally all too shallow to look at the boyish cuteness of Ellen DeGeneres, Tegan & Sara and Rachel Maddow.

Finally, as a request, I've been asked to post a picture of myself, the writer of this blog, for you all to judge whether or not I'm ugly myself.

I'm not bisexual, or straight, I'm simply a lesbian. But am I ugly? Do you think I'm incapable of attracting male attention? You decide.

Calzona Bombshell?

If you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy, (or not a fan, but spend the majority of your day googling 'Calzona' or 'Canzona fanfic',) you'll know that the show is home to one of the best lesbian couples of all time.

Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins make up this dynamic duo, but gossip tells us that something baaaad is going to happen this Thursday evening when Grey's airs.

Previews have been issued to a select few, with one viewer saying:

There’s a giant bombshell dropped in the middle of Callie and Arizona’s relationship. I literally gasped and then yelled at my screen when I found out what it was. OK, make that TWICE. I yelled at my screen TWICE. If there’s one reason to watch this episode, this is it.

EEK! Sounds exciting, right? WRONG! It sounds f*cking awful! I'm thinking of all the worst situations it could be and I am not happy with it. They can't break up again, surely?!

So what do you think this 'bombshell' will be? Will they overcome it? And are you excited to see what it is!?

If You Don't Like It... GO HOME.

Chances are, you are probably aware of the, as what can only be described as 'stupid', law in the American constitution known as 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'.

This ruling sees that homosexuals in the US Army are fired and discharged from their units once they are found to be gay, lesbian or bisexual.

Ridiculously, the 'justification' behind this law being passed is that apparently homosexuality within a unit can affect the cohesion and morale of the group as a whole, with heterosexual soldiers claiming that they are distracted and disgusted by their gay service members.

This week, Lady Gaga - one of the worlds most famous, committed gay rights fighters - gave a speech in Maine, in which she made a series of incredibly valid points in favour of the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

Perhaps most significantly, she suggested creating a new rule, in which instead of sending home the homosexual soldiers within the army, we should send home the homophobic. We should send home those who believe that someone's sexuality is 'wrong' and we should send home those that believe gay people working alongside them affects their performance on the front line.

Gaga also made the point that when signing up to the army, you make an oath to protect your country and everyone in it. This is supposedly because you love your country and it's citizens so much that you are willing to risk your life to fight for it.

However, doesn't this also mean that you have made the oath to protect the gay people in your country too? Doesn't this mean that you love the gay people within your country? Well, that's what you swore into when you joined, so why would anyone who promised such a thing feel the need to be protected by Don't Ask, Don't Tell?

Quite poignantly, Gaga helps the crowd realize that the homophobic soldier is not filled with said love for his country, but rather that his 'loyalty' towards his country is tethered by hate towards certain members of his unit.

Unfortunately, DADT was not repealed this week, but that doesn't mean we can't keep fighting.

The Real L Word: Oui ou non?

Yeah, I've put it off for a long while, but I think it's time we discussed the revelation that is The Real L Word.

TRLW isn't actually out in England yet, so you may not have seen it if you are not in the United States.

In theory, all visibility for LGBT communities is good visibility. However, some have argued that this poor excuse for a trashy reality series should never be spoken about again. Somewhat like 'He Who Must Be Named', a.k.a Lord Voldemort. DARN, I said His name.

But how bad is it, really? Let's examine the characters.

Exhibit A: Whitney.

Pros: F*cking HOT. Gets more girls than Hugh Hefner. Has the cutest smile. Mysterious. Charming.

Cons: Cheater. A notorious liar. Doesn't really know what she wants.

Exhibit B: Tracy.

Pros: Gorgeous. Kind. Caring. Honest.

Cons: Has a sucky ass Mother. Kinda boring. Shy.

Exhibit C: Mikey.

Pros: An icon in the fashion world. Has a smokin' hot fiancée. Softie at heart.

Cons: Can be such a biatch. Repetitive. Puts on a hard front.

Exhibit D: Nikki.

Pros: Is one half of the most adorable real life couple. Determined. Sassy.

Cons: Can be over-powering. Sometimes over-dominates. Gets jealous easily.

Exhibit E: Jill.

Pros: Is the other half of said adorable couple. Cute. Rather intelligent.

Cons: Easily swayed by Nikki. Overly hesitant. Quiet.

Exhibit F: Rose.

Pros: Pretty. Has a gorgeous on/off girlfriend. Confident.

Cons: She's a massive dick most of the time. Cheater. Unreliable.
