"A Vote for Obama is a Vote for Equality"

Those of you in the States will know that today is crucial to the future of your country.

Let's quickly take a look at a genuine quote from Mitt Romney himself:

I do not favour marriage between people of the same gender and I don't favour civil unions.

I'd like to ask you one question: If Mitt Romney is saying things such as this, why are you voting for him?

A vote for Romney is a vote for turning back the clock. A vote for Romney is a vote in favour of discrimination against who you are and against those you love.

Now, I don't care if you don't want to get married. I don't care if you don't think marriage is an important factor to you. All I care about is the fact that you should think about your LGBTQ brothers and sisters who do believe that marriage is a step towards equality for all people who come under the queer umbrella.

A vote for Romney would mean that you are taking this right away from them; a right that gay people and their straight allies have fought for for a number of years.

A vote for Romney is a vote in favour of treating gay people like second-class citizens, who are different from their straight counterparts.

Some of you may say "you are being a one issue voter". Does that really matter?

Your sexual orientation is central to who you are. I'm not saying it defines you, but it is definitely a big part of your life. A VOTE FOR ROMNEY IS A VOTE AGAINST YOURSELF.

Now, let's compare this to the current president, Barack Obama.

Remember when he supported gay marriage publicly: the first time any president in US history has explicitly stated this? Let me remind you.

Can you not see? Are you so blind as to hear Obama speak so emotionally about our LGBT family, yet vote for Romney anyway?

Not only that, but Obama has supported other legislation regarding LGBT equality.

In 2010, President Obama repealed Don't Ask, Don't Tell, which prevented gay service members from serving openly in the US armed forced.

President Obama has constantly supported the idea that foreign nationals in the States should be low priority cases in terms of deportation, allowing them to stay with their partners.

Obama has spoken out publicly against bullying in regards to pupils who regard themselves as gay - he even released an "It Gets Better" video, to show thousands of young people that he supports them and their right to be whoever they want to be.

So, you lovely gays, I'm going to ask you one more time: If you're voting for Romney... why? You are voting against everything many people just like you believe in.

A vote for Obama is a vote for civil rights.

A vote for Obama is a vote for moving forward.

A vote for Obama is a vote for EQUALITY.

Canada or the US?

I'm guessing, as most of my readers are of American origin, that most of you are screaming: WHOA WHOA WHOA, AMERICA IS SO MUCH BETTER.

However, I - a wholly British citizen - am on a much more unbiased debating ground and therefore feel I should express my opinion here.

"What does this have to do with gays and lesbians?" you ask.

Well, the more literature I read about gay marriage in both Canada and the United States, the more I am pushed away from the US and pulled toward Canada.

Of course, we all know that gay marriage is legal everywhere in Canada, not just in 6 poxy states like it is in America. But there is more to the matter.

For instance, in the article I just read by Clifford Krauss, (click his name for a link to the article), he explains that once gay marriage was legalized in Canada, there was little concern or backlash against it. I mean, of course there was some when it came to super, super Catholic parts of the church, but it was nothing compared to the States.

Krauss writes "When Massachusetts' highest court ruled for gay marriage, the issue loomed over American politics." He also reveals how even the most democratic, liberal Presidential candidates vowed to be unsupportive when it came to homosexual marriage.

All this makes me think of how closed-minded America seems. A lot of the opposition against gay marriage's legalization wasn't even from the opinions of those Americans who were overly religious. Some of the opposition came from people who had just been 'brought up that way'. That is, brought up to hate, or at least dislike, gay people.

With Canada's current social and politic state, it seems relatively easy to conclude that Canada would be a much more welcoming place for gay people and their families to live.

However, I wonder if this is not the case, and some of the things I've been reading are misleading?

If you're from either Canada or the United States, please comment and tell me your thoughts on this issue. I am extremely curious, but to me, Canada seems to be winning here.

Please prove me wrong - or right!

Anyone else hate Sarah Palin?

Okay, maybe HATE is a strong word... But then again, maybe it isn't!

As I was strolling through fellow lesbian and out comedienne Bridget McManus' MySpace page, I noticed she'd posted a few blogs about how she also dislikes Governor Palin and the American Government in general.

I don't understand how anyone could vote for her. And if you're gay and voting for her: WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?! She's been quoted many times saying how being gay is 'a choice that someone makes in life' (click the link for video evidence), as if someone can choose whether to be gay or not. She also claims that she has a lesbian best friend. Then why, if you have a lesbian best friend, do you oppose gay marriage so strongly?! Oh that's right, it's because you don't have a lesbian best friend at all! Again, more lies just to win votes.

And if you're voting for Palin because she's 'attractive'... What the f?! Since when was this attractive?:

Granted, she's better looking than any other women politicians, but attractive? That's bullshit. Personally, I find Tina Fey's version of Palin much more attractive.

Plus, nobody's more liberal than Ms. Fey. And she clearly has the better sense of humour.

Anyway, my point is, PLEASE America, just vote Obama.
